She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, save for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a horror hunter, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day. If a character does not have any levels in a spellcasting class, she does not receive any benefit from this feature. ==== Dark Knowledge ==== Once per day, a horror hunter can draw upon her expansive knowledge.\\ A horror hunter unlocks new dark knowledge abilities as her level increases and can also call upon her dark knowledge more often, gaining one additional daily use per class level. Using dark knowledge requires a Knowledge check of a type appropriate to the creature faced. A Knowledge (arcana) check reveals secrets of magical beasts, Knowledge (dungeoneering) pertains to aberrations, Knowledge (religion) covers undead, and Knowledge (the planes) applies to outsiders and elementals. The DC of the check is 15. Most of the horror hunter's dark knowledge abilities increase in effectiveness if she succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more. Dark knowledge can only be used once against any given creature. The horror hunter's dark knowledge can affect a single creature or all creatures of the same race, depending on the effect used. A target creature must be within 60 feet, and the horror hunter must be aware of the creature's presence, although she need not have a line of sight to it. The effects of dark knowledge last for 1 minute, unless stated otherwise. //Tactics//: The horror hunter knows the general combat behaviors of creatures of that race, granting her allies a +1 bonus to attack rolls made against them. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this bonus increases to +2. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 20 or more, then this bonus increases to +3. If a character has access to this dark knowledge ability from another class, the bonus it provides increases by 1. //Maneuvers//: Starting at 3rd level, a horror hunter is familiar with the special attacks of creatures of that race, granting her allies a +2 bonus to any rolls to oppose a combat maneuver such as a grapple, trip, or bullrush. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this bonus increases to +4. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 20 or more, then this bonus increases to +6. //Foe//: Starting at 5th level, a horror hunter can direct her allies to attack vital spots of her enemies. On a successful Knowledge check, she grants them a bonus to weapon damage rolls made against the target creatures equal to 1d6 points of damage. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this bonus increases to 2d6. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 20 or more, then this bonus increases to 3d6. If a character has access to this dark knowledge ability from another class, the bonus it provides increases by an additional 1d6. //Fortification//: Starting at 7th level, a horror hunter can point out weaknesses in the defenses of a creature of that race. On a successful Knowledge check, the damage reduction and spell resistance of target creatures are treated as if they were reduced by 1. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more, then it is treated as if it were reduced by 2. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 20 or more, then this reduction is increased to 3. //Expertise//: Upon reaching 9th level, a horror hunter can direct the abilities of her allies to where they are most effective. On a successful Knowledge check, the DCs of spells and abilities used by a horror hunter or her allies are increased by 1 against creatures of that race. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 10 or more, the DCs of their spells and abilities are increased by 2. If the horror hunter succeeds on her Knowledge check by 20 or more, then this bonus increases to 3. ==== Expanded Dark Knowledge ==== A horror hunter can apply her dark knowledge to additional creature types. At 2nd level, she gains the ability to target creatures with the ooze type with her dark knowledge abilities using the Knowledge (Dungeoneering) skill. Upon reaching 6th level, a horror hunter gains the ability to target monstrous humanoids with her dark knowledge abilities using Knowledge (Nature). === === ==== Universal Knowledge ==== At 10th level, a horror hunter’s extensive use of dark knowledge has given her the ability to apply it near-universally. Once per day, a horror hunter can expend a use of her dark knowledge to target a single creature of any type with one of her dark knowledge abilities, making a special Knowledge check with a bonus of 15 plus her intelligence modifier. \\ **Horror Hunters with Archivist Levels** \\ Horror hunter levels stack with archivist levels for determining which archivist dark knowledge abilities a character has access to. For example, a character with 3 levels in archivist and 2 levels in horror hunter would have access to the dark knowledge (pussiance) ability. These levels do not stack for determining daily uses of dark knowledge gained from the archivist class.\\ \\ \\ **Horror Hunters with Favored Enemy** \\ A horror hunter with the favored enemy class feature may apply her favored enemy bonus to Knowledge checks made to use dark knowledge against her favored enemy. She does not gain or progress favored enemy as a class class feature.\\
